William Morris - printing

This half term we are studying artist, William Morris (24 March 1834 – 3 October 1896). He was an English textile designer, artist, writer, and socialist associated with the English Arts and Crafts Movement. The children have been learning about how Morris made patterned wall paper fashionable in the Victorian era. Morris's first repeating pattern for wallpaper is dated 1862. Morris used the ancient technique of wooden block printing, but instead the children had a go at indenting a repeated pattern on a sheet of polystyrene before painting and printing. Look out for the finished prints!
