Fundamental British Values
The DfE set out the need for schools “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.”
At Robert Bakewell, we actively teach British Values through our RHSE curriculum - JIGSAW. We also have Global Themes, which underpin the learning for each half term. Our Global Themes include: culture, community and development; conflict and resolution; awe and wonder; integrity, honesty and difference; analyse and evaluate; and changing. We believe that all of these themes build towards a well-rounded member of society.
The Robert Bakewell children actively engage in fundraising for charity as well as for the school We want to highlight to them that they can contribute positively to the lives of those living and working in the local area but have an impact on wider society as result of their actions.
We have a Head Boy and Head Girl who are elected via a democratic process. We create an environment where our children have their own say on how the school is run by encouraging all of the children to play a role. Pupil voice is actively sought to provide the children with a voice that can be heard. We hold pupil voice on many levels, curriculum, behaviour and leadership of the school.
Our vision statement 'For all our children to be kind, courageous and curious citizens, helping them to shine for a bright and happy future in our diverse world' highlights the importance we place on such values and that we embed them in all that we do.
