Welcome to the Ash class page

Our Unit 5 topic is all about Communication and Connections and we will be exploring our learning question
“Who would you go on an adventure with?”

Through this question we will be exploring the world around us. We will be focusing on our families and the connections we have through them, to other countries. In geography we will be looking at similarities and differences between our school and those of others around the world. In English, we will be focusing on the books We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, The Big Adventure and A Stroll Through The Seasons. Children will explore the theme of journeys through these stories and the relationships the characters have with each other. Children will also look at different forms of writing as a means of communication. The children will continue with daily phonics lessons which will help them record simple sentences and recognise tricky words to support reading and writing. In maths, children will focus on counting beyond 10 and understanding the relationship of one more and one less. They will learn bonds to 5 and begin to manipulate shapes in order to develop their spatial reasoning. In RHSE, we will be teaching the children how to become responsible citizens and show care for people and the environment we live in. The British Value focus is Individual Liberty. In music, we will be learning how to use technology to help us record our performances. We will also be learning the nursery rhyme Finger Family. In art, the children will be exploring a range of natural and manmade tools to help them make marks using different media. Children will also be focusing on the skill of observational art.

At Robert Bakewell we firmly believe that reading is the key that opens doors for our children. Please ensure that you hear your child read daily and record this in their diary so that they can earn points towards our fabulous reading prizes.

Please keep an eye on our webpage as we will upload photographs on a regular basis, to showcase the wonderful learning that is going on in our indoor and outdoor classrooms.

PE this half term will be on Monday, so please ensure children have their indoor PE kit in school each week. This includes black shorts/leggings and white t-shirts and black pumps. Please ensure your kit is named!
