Ash

Welcome to the Ash class page

We hope you are getting into the festive spirit and keeping warm on these cold and frosty mornings.

Our Unit 3 topic is all about Awe and Wander and we will be exploring our learning question
“How can you travel from A to B?”

Through this question we will be exploring our wonderful planet. The children will learn that Earth is comprised of land, water, ice and desert. They will learn that we have different countries that have hot and cold climates. Children will also learn that we use a range of different transport in order to travel from place to place. In English we will be looking at stories that focus on characters travelling to different locations such as, The Everywhere Bear and The Train Ride. We will be focusing on the journey the character takes and looking at how we can record these as story maps. The children will continue with daily phonics lessons which will help them begin to write simple words and phrases. In maths, children will become familiar with the numbers to 10. Children will learn how to read, write and order them, as well as form the numbers correctly. The will also learn one more and one less than an amount to 10 and begin to compare mass and capacity. In RHSE, we will be teaching the children how to develop skills that allow them to be the best version of themselves. The British Value focus is Democracy. Our science lessons will continue focusing on identifying simple materials and recognising simple properties of them. We will also be looking at what why objects float or sink. In music, we will be continuing to learn a range of nursery rhymes with a focus on Row, row, row your boat. In art, the children will be exploring how to create landscapes using the technique of collage.

At Robert Bakewell we firmly believe that reading is the key that opens doors for our children. Please ensure that you hear your child read daily and record this in their diary so that they can earn points towards our fabulous reading prizes.

Please keep an eye on our webpage as we will upload photographs on a regular basis, to showcase the wonderful learning that is going on in our indoor and outdoor classrooms.

PE this half term will be on Monday, so please ensure children have their indoor PE kit in school each week. This includes black shorts/leggings and white t-shirts and black pumps. Please ensure your kit is named!
