Features of a river!
This half term the children are undertaking a river study. They are learning about the features that make up the river and comparing the physical and human geography of the river Soar and the river Nile. So far we have explored the source of a river, the upper course and the middle course. This week we will be studying the lower course, the mouth of a river and finding out about estuaries. Here are some pictures of the children figuring out how meanders form in the middle course of a river! The children were acting as water particles. The children on the inside of the river had to move very slowly, which forced them to drop their sediment on the inner bank. The children on the outside were moving very quickly their current was strong, which meant they did not drop any sediment!
