Down by the brook…
We have spent the whole half term learning about rivers. We have compared the Nile and the Soar. We have learnt about the features in each part of the river and the processes like erosion and deposition. We walked down to the brook to see if we could spot any of the features we had been learning about. We threw in sticks and timed them between two points to test how fast the current was, we measured the width and the depth. We also collected water from the edge. We took the water back to school and put our science learning into action as we used different methods of filtering to try and get the water clean. We also took our sketch books down to the brook with us so we could channel our inner Monets! We have been studying the works and techniques of Monet throughout the half term. We learnt about how he was involved in the impressionism movement and liked to paint outside in order to capture the changing light and reflections. We actually used some water collected from the brook with our watercolour paints to create a painting of the brook, showing the way sun lit up the sky and reflected on the water.
