We’ve just started looking at how Barbara Hillary made a difference.
Barbara Hillary was a nurse for 55 years. Once she retired she decided she wanted to travel to the Poles. She worked hard and didn’t give up on her dreams. She learnt to ski and raised lots of money for her travels.
Barbara Hillary became the first black woman on record to reach the North Pole, which she did at the age of 75 in 2007, and the first to reach the South Pole, at the age of 79 in 2011.
